& Shop (as assigned) Job Type: Full-time Reports to: Supervisor

Summary: The Heavy Equipment/ Diesel Mechanic is responsible for
diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the diesel-powered heavy
equipment and machinery used in construction, mining, agriculture,
or other industries. This role ensures that the equipment operates
safely and efficiently by performing preventative maintenance and
troubleshooting mechanical issues. A clean driver license is
required for this position. Key Responsibilities:
- Inspection & Diagnostics:
- Perform thorough inspections of heavy equipment to identify
mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot engine
problems and identify issues with the fuel system, transmission,
brake system, and other components.
- Repair & Maintenance:
- Repair or replace defective components such as engines,
transmissions, differential gears, and hydraulic systems.
- Maintain and repair diesel engines, including engine
disassembly, cleaning, part replacement, and reassembly.
- Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes,
lubrication, filter replacement, and tire inspections.
- System Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, electrical systems, air
conditioning systems, and fuel systems in heavy machinery.
- Test and calibrate mechanical systems to ensure proper
functioning.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of service work performed, parts
replaced, and hours worked.
- Provide clear reports on equipment condition, repair status,
and estimated time to completion.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while working on
heavy equipment.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are used properly and
safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Customer Service & Communication:
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and
clients to discuss equipment performance, repair progress, and
necessary repairs.
- Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades or improvements
to increase operational efficiency.
- Parts Management:
- Order parts and supplies necessary for repairs and
maintenance.
- Keep track of inventory and report shortages or needs for new
tools/equipment. Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification or
associate degree preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in diesel mechanic work,
specifically with heavy equipment.
- Must have clean driving record (no tickets, no suspensions, no
violations, etc).
- Experience working with a variety of diesel engines, hydraulic
systems, and electrical systems.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and
troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and
schematics.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and specialized equipment
for mechanical troubleshooting.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy parts or tools (up to 20
lbs).
- Comfortable working outdoor conditions and in tight spaces or
awkward positions.
- Certifications:
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification in Diesel
Engines (preferred).
- CDL (Commercial Driver s License) nice to have.
- Other Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Working
Conditions:
- Work is typically performed in outdoor environments or
mechanical shops.
- May require long hours, overtime, or weekend work depending on
job site needs.
